Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Qualifications:  Must have or be eligible for North Dakota teaching license or ability to be Alternatively Certified.  Middle School or High School License preferred.  Job related experience preferred.

Job Summary: The role of the Career Advisor is to deliver and support the Career Education program that educates students’ on making their career choices. The Career Advisor will also provide support for the Career Education curriculum and materials for the Grand Forks Consortium schools. They will provide leadership, develop, and implement programs, and continually upgrade the career education curriculum, the portfolio process, mentorship programs, career fairs, and career education special events.  The Career Advisor is a valued and contributing member of the Career Education department and K-12 Counseling Program of the Grand Forks Public Schools.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:


Coordinates and delivers career education units to students in the Grand Forks Public Schools

Teaches and presents 9th – 12th grade career units to assigned schools.
Communicates and collaborates with the high school counselors on the scheduling, delivering, and evaluation of career units.
Provide support and assistance for the region-wide 10th grade Career Expo. 
Identifies and oversee state grant opportunities for funding nontraditional career opportunities and educational equity.
Provides career education curriculum materials and support to Grand Forks Consortium school counselors.
Staff and promote high school Career Centers.

Be available to students, teachers and parents on a call-in or walk-in basis during regular school hours throughout the school year in the career centers.
Provide students with assistance in finding part-time paid employment, post secondary opportunities, career development information, volunteer opportunities, career exploration activities, and financial aid/scholarship information.
Promote the opportunities available through the career centers through class presentations, student educational career planning conferences, school newsletter articles, and school announcements.
Assists with the Job Shadowing program at the Grand Forks high schools.
Career Education Curriculum Development

Reviews and manages the curriculum for the Career Education program
Reviews and manages the software and available resources for Career Education program
Provides staff in-service on changes to curriculum, software, and available resources
Coordinates the printing and distribution career education materials.
Willingness to attend professional development trainings and conferences related to Career Development and Career Advising for the purposes of enhancing the program.
National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Advisor

Serves as a National Technical Honor Society Advisor for a high school chapter
Meets with NTHS students on a regular basis
Advises chapter meetings and coordinates student activities
Works with CTE staff to identify, nominate, and complete applications for new members.
Follow all the local and national by-laws and regulations as they pertain to the chapter.
Coordinates and works with the Career Development Advisory Committee.

Recruit new members to the School-to-Career Advisory committee to include high school students, and rotate membership according to 3-year term lengths. 
Meet with the advisory committee for a minimum of two times during the school year to evaluate, make suggestions for improvements or changes, and to assist in the promotion of the Career Development program.  
Coordinates and works with data gathering for the Career Education Department

Record and maintain records of students visits to the Career Center
Provide support in gathering and reporting Year-End Annual Reports data 
Gathers records and submits CTE state reports on advisory committee activities.
Assist with the implementation of the Choice Ready accountability measurements and data recording 
Coordinate the Job Shadowing program at the Grand Forks high schools.

Promote the Job Shadowing program with the goal of placing approximately 200-300 students (grades 9-12) in a job shadowing experience.
Arrange all appointments and prepare all correspondence for business contacts and student participants.
Assist students with the application process, research of career information, prepare for shadow visit, and follow-up activities.
Set up and promote Career Forums for students to explore careers as a group activity in identified areas that are high in demand.
Coordinate and maintain the Junior Achievement Program.

Recruit, train and support volunteer consultants and classroom teachers for grades 3-5 and some representative classes in grades K-2 in the Grand Forks Schools.  Schools in the consortium participate in grade levels of their choosing in Grades 3-6.  This involves monitoring implementation of the program in approximately 110 classrooms with approximately 125 volunteers.
Manage funds, grant writing and fund development for program sustainability.
Coordinate meetings of the formal program Advisory Board, which meets semi-annually.
Prepare, coordinate, and review program evaluation reports by teachers and volunteers for JA Boards, the local school district, and Jr. Achievement of the Upper Midwest, Inc.
Other duties as assigned.

The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
 
A teaching contract of 188 days.
