POSITION: BSD#7 – PSN Bus Driver
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 185 Days
LOCATION: Bus Garage/Event Center

EVALUATION: As required by NDSCC and Belcourt School District #7 policy
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have Class A or B Driver's License with passenger and school bus (P and S endorsement), and air brake endorsement to operate a vehicle 26,000 lbs. and over; Must be able to meet requirements set by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, NDCC, and 49 CFR 391.41
 
Must submit a current school bus driver physical/medical card within six months of entry on duty date of employment. Must participate in on-site training. Must have the ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle operation, maintenance, and repair. Must have the ability to pass a District background check and negative drug screen.

Must be fully mobile on steps, ladders, scaffolding, etc. Must be able to bend and stoop. Must have sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms to safely operate hand and power tools, equipment, valves, gauges, etc.
 
 
Communication Skills:
Shows courtesy and respect to students, parents, members of the public, and other staff members in all face-to-face and telephone communications. Has the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals; understands written and oral instructions. Has the ability to communicate clearly in speaking to students, staff, and parents. Can prepare correspondence, reports, and other written communications in final format from oral instructions or from drafts, notes, or other documents ensuring grammatical correctness and spelling.
 
JOB GOAL:
To transport students to and from school and other sites within the designated route(s)
To ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a school vehicle.
Fulfill non-driving assignments.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to Bus Garage Supervisor & PSN Director.
The Bus Driver will operate the school bus or other school fleet vehicles observing safety procedures, rules, and laws (upon obtaining a school bus license and certification).
Ensure all assigned buses and vehicles are in a safe and proper working order.
Perform proper scheduled preventative maintenance and repairs as necessary to assigned bus/fleet vehicles in areas such as but not limited to: Body systems & Special Equipment, Diesel and Gas Engines, Drive Train, Brakes, Tires, Suspension & Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Air Conditioning Systems & Controls.
Make emergency service calls for stranded buses or other district equipment.
Make recommendations to the supervisor for ordering all necessary repairs parts/supplies.
Maintain shop area in clean, orderly, and safe condition with outside snow removal as needed.
Assist in the service and repair of other district motor vehicles as directed.
Perform complete safety inspections as required. Estimate time, material, and equipment needed for assigned jobs.
Assist in the service and repair of non-bus vehicles as needed.
Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to assigned bus.
Comply with all District requirements in School Board policies.
Record student counts and daily mileage for the assigned route(s).
Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering school buses.
Supervise students while transporting them. Is familiar with and abides by applicable confidentiality, privacy, FERPA, FLSA, and HIPPA regulations.

Position may require working flexible hours.
Must maintain physical ability to be able to perform all essential functions as a mechanic and school bus driver.
Must acquire a minimum of 3 hours of bus driving training annually and a required defensive driving course at least every 5 years. 
Non-bus driving duties assigned by supervisor.
Other related duties as assigned.
