Job Description:

Ellendale Public School is seeking applicants for a Special Education Paraprofessional Position.  This position will assist the teacher while maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively. Applicant's roles and responsibilities shall include:


Assist the classroom/special education teacher with instruction;
Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students as is expected of teachers;
Work with supervising teacher to develop a schedule and routine:
Supervise students during classroom activities;
Assist teachers with some clerical work;
Assist teachers with developing instructional materials;
Maintain positive relationship with school staff, students, and parents;
Maintain confidentiality about what is seen, heard, and done at school;
Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning;
Conduct learning exercises with small groups of children;
Assist teacher in data collection, observing, and rewarding student behavior
Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other children;
Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary;
Alert the teacher to special needs of individual students;
Implement positive behavior management strategies as trained and instructed;
Adhere to district and individual student IEP/Behavior Plans regarding discipline of the student;
Help maintain individual records for each child;
Report daily progress of each student to supervising teacher;
Assist with work, play, bathroom, and eating activities as assigned;
Under supervision, assist student with personal care needs;
Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas;
Participate in required training (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention);
Participate in additional required training which will include 20 hours of Paraprofessional training required by state/Unit;
Present a positive image of the school to the public; and
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, or SPED/Classroom Teacher


Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent, post-secondary training preferred;
Enjoy working with and helping children with special needs;
Able to take and follow direction;
A desire to assist teachers and children to be successful in school;
Some knowledge of child growth, development, and behavior; and
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

Salary shall be dependent upon experience.
