Job Description:

POSITION: OIS Student Services Specialist/Coordinator
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: School Year 2024/2025
LOCATION: Ojibwa Indian School
EVALUATION: As required by NDSCC and Belcourt School District #7 policy
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must meet the qualifications for the position.
Certification/Licenses:
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field
A valid North Dakota Secondary Professional Certificate.
Preferred:
A minimum of three years of educational experience.
Knowledge of special education laws.
Must provide at least three (3) written letters of recommendation, of which one (1) must be from your most recent employer.
Experience in working in family engagement, community outreach, or a related field.
Experience working in the K-12 Educational field is preferred.
Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including school personnel, families, community organizations, and agencies.

Communication Skills:

Has the ability to communicate clearly in speaking to students, staff, and parents. Has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written form (e.g., reports, business correspondence, newsletters, handbooks, and procedure manuals) within the school system to students and staff. Computer Skills:
Can navigate using web browsers; can execute web searches and communicate via email. Understand basic file manipulation (open, edit, save, copy, cut, paste) and printing of documents. Can effectively utilize office-related applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Google Suite). Has knowledge of and ability to utilize local and network accounts. Can navigate/effectively use peripherals (e.g., interactive whiteboard, projectors, cameras, printers, pda, etc.). Possesses knowledge and ability to access and navigate web-based applications. Has knowledge or experience using students and other information systems(s).
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to OIS principal.
The Student Service Coordinator may assist as an advisor or coach for an organization, class, or athletic team.
Student Services Specialist will supervise: the Remediation classroom instructor, security/truancy officers, Day Treatment Program, and others delegated by the principal
Act as a liaison between students and parents, and tribal court.
Identify students for guidance and counseling and make proper referrals.
Provide leadership in the maintenance of high standards of student conduct and enforcement of disciplinary procedures according to the due process rights of all students.
Be responsible for upholding and updating the school’s behavioral referral policy and processes.
Work cohesively with restrictive classroom (RC) personnel regarding disciplinary processes and procedures.
Supervise school areas including corridors, bus loading areas, food service areas, etc.
Serve as a member of and participate in the administrative team.
Be responsible for the PBIS system, roster, and store.
Supervise a balanced share of extracurricular activities.
Chair the parent/guardian and student activities committee
Plan engagement events throughout the school year for parents/guardians and students.
Evaluate assigned instructors and other assigned personnel.
Assist with the maintenance of proper safety standards and conduct monthly safety drills.
Assume the duties of the principal during the principal’s absence as instructed.
Represent the school system in court actions, expulsion hearings, and school board meetings.
Be assigned other duties as the principal determines.
Develop and implement strategies to engage families and community members in the educational process.
Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to identify and address the needs of families and community members.
Organize and facilitate family workshops, events, and activities aimed at promoting family involvement in education.
Coordinate programs and opportunities for families to become actively involved in schools.
Provide resources and support to families to enhance their ability to support their children’s academic success.
Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of family engagement initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
Performs duties for alignment with Title programs.
Works with individual schools, school staff, and school leaders to analyze data to develop, coordinate, and implement efforts to strengthen student/school partnerships and outreach activities.
Serve as a liaison between schools, students, parents/guardians, community groups, district, and other organizations/stakeholders to provide information on school programs and services and to gather or relay information on school-related matters.
Proactively seeks out resources, research, and information on models and strategies in other school districts; changes in the field of family, student, and community engagement; and share new learning with colleagues.
Coordinates and conducts parent/guardian and community involvement activities and services (i.e., Parent Advisory meetings, multicultural and social events, mentoring programs, Infinite Campus, Parent/Community Center activities, etc.).
Interprets ESSA requirements related to school activities/outreach programs that support parental involvement; supports and collaborates with Social Workers, Counselors, and community agencies that can contribute resources to assist families as needed.
Works with families and teachers in improving the achievement level of students by assisting parents and volunteers with learning activities; disseminates information regarding family engagement goals and objectives, books, resources, and tutorial services to reinforce skills.
Makes home visits as needed and works with families regarding ways in which they can help their children achieve emotional, physical, and academic success.
Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of family engagement initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
