Job Description:

Middle School English Learner (EL) Teacher

Performance Responsibilities for English Learner Resource Teacher

  • Provide EL instructional services for students as assigned.
  • Services are consistent with district EL program model and curriculum scope and sequence.
  • Caseload includes students of various levels of proficiency and grade levels dependent upon need.   
  • Services involve push-in and pull-out, depending on model and student Individual Language Plan.
  • Ensure all Individual Language Plans are completed for students on caseload.
  • Assist with annual assessment of English Learners.
  • Assist in collaboration and supervision of EL teacher aides. 
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, interventionists and other instructional personnel.
  • Participate in any meetings or communication related to students on caseload.
  • Assist with the development of EL program curriculum.
  • Assist with EL materials development.
  • Participate in professional development. 
  • Participate in family engagement activities. 

 
Expectations

  • Maintain a schedule as assigned.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Attend in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Cooperative with EL Program staff, including EL coordinator, instructional aides and home liaison.
  • Maintain a teamwork attitude with all school staff. 
  • Follow program and district policy for notification of absences.
  • Maintain confidentiality related to student and school issues. 
  • Follow appropriate program and district policies for communication. 
  • Maintain appropriate professional dress and demeanor.  

 
Requirements

  • ND teaching licensure with EL endorsement (or plan on file with Education Standards and Practices Board to complete endorsement).
  • Proven record of willingness to be flexible and work well in a variety of situations.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for working with children and youth from diverse language and cultural backgrounds. 

 
Preferences

  • Experience working as an EL teacher.
  • Initial licensure at level of assignment; i.e. elementary classroom for elementary EL teacher position or secondary content area for secondary EL teacher position.   
  • Experience working with students and youth from diverse language and cultural background.

Equipment
All teachers are equipped with an Apple MacBook Air laptop and iPad. All classrooms have brand new BenQ boards, Document Cameras and Audio Enhancement Systems. Device per student ratio is 1:1 for all students district wide.

  • University of North Dakota: Master's Program offered on site in Watford City with three different program tracks. Five Month completion timeline and a 50% grant to cover tuition costs. This program aims to provide Master's Level classes to our staff and support rural education systems to build leaders within.
  • University of Mary: Watford City office with classes and Master's support.
