English Learner Instructional Aide
Performance Responsibilities for EL Instructional Aide
- To assist the EL resource teacher and classroom teacher in achieving EL Program objectives by working with individual students or small group.
- To reinforce learning of materials, concepts, and skills initially introduced by resource teacher or classroom teacher.
- To work with targeted students, using a variety of materials and instructional methods, including: computer-assisted instruction, instructional manipulatives, etc.
- To contribute to a well-organized, smooth functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
- To confer with the classroom teachers or resource teacher on any problems, or special information about individual students.
- To develop an awareness and sensitivity of the cultural/language background of the EL students in the program.
- To develop materials as assigned by EL resource and/or classroom teachers.
- To assist the EL teacher and/or EL coordinator with overall program requirements, including student testing, maintaining of files and documents.
Expectations
- Maintain a schedule as assigned.
- Complete school building duties as needed.
- Attend training and program meetings as needed.
- Cooperate with School District and EL Program staff, including Building administration, EL resource teacher, classroom teacher and EL coordinator.
- Maintain a teamwork attitude with all school staff.
- Follow program and district policy for notification of absences.
- Maintain confidentiality related to student and school issues.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality on information about students as is expected of certified staff.
- Follow appropriate program and district policies for communication.
- Maintain appropriate professional dress and demeanor.
Requirements
- Interest and ability to work with children and youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to participate in training.
- Willingness to work as a team member.
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to different situations.
- Fluency in academic English.
