Job Description:
Souris Valley Special Services is looking for a widely adaptable, independent, and self-motivated individual who positively promotes the vision and goals of the Unit in the role of Special Education Director.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Day-to-day operation of the unit.
2. Develop the multi-district organizational plan and its updates.
3. Coordinate, plan and develop programs of the unit on a daily and long-range basis.
4. Recruit, employ, and supervise staff necessary to accomplish the goals and objectives of the unit, with the approval of the Board of Directors.
5. Develop, for the approval of the Board, an annual budget and be responsible for all fiscal operations of the unit.
6. Organize and carry out regular meetings of the Board of Directors and keep accurate records of these meetings.
7. Assume duties or assignments approved by the Board and carry out all responsibilities in accord with state and federal law, and the policies of the unit.
8. Serve as a consultant to member districts regarding all legal matters related to special services.
9. Serve as a mediator in conflict situations between parents and school within the unit.
10. Ensure that questions and problems presented over the phone, in person, or in writing are answered immediately and accurately.
11. Provide information to member district administrators of all special services activities in the unit and information that comes from the state and federal government.
12. Maintain professional relationships and/or committee memberships with other educational and non-educational organizations as appropriate and related to providing special services.
13. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Required:
1. Must have a vehicle and current driver’s license.
2. Operational knowledge of TIEnet.
3. Operational knowledge of NDDPI Guidelines and IDEA Regulations.
4. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Strong interpersonal skills; and
6. Ability to travel daily throughout the school year.
Minimum Qualification: ND Special Education Director’s Credential
Reports to: Souris Valley Special Services Board of Directors
Terms of Employment: 12 months
Start Date: July 1, 2025
