Education: Master’s Degree
Qualifications: Must have or be eligible for a North Dakota teaching license in Speech Pathology. Clinical Fellowship Year supervision is available.
Job Goal: Prevent, assess, and provide support within the school setting for students with language, communication, and speech sound disorders as well as serve as a resource for team members.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide speech and language interventions and treatments to students identified with or at risk for speech and language delays.
Create individualized education plans to treat various speech and language disorders.
Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings.
Conduct diagnostic evaluations and determine eligibility for speech and language services.
Complete Medicaid Billing paperwork.
Consult with teachers, parents and outside service providers.
Maintain detailed progress notes for students receiving services.
Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, parents and colleagues.
Additional requirements:
Possess a thorough understanding of causation and evidence-based interventions for a variety of speech and Language disorders.
Possess a thorough understanding of alternative and augmentative communication.
Demonstrate compassion and patience for individuals with disabilities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of special education compliance requirements.
Exhibit good interpersonal skills and a strong desire to work collaboratively with other professionals in the school setting.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
Occasionally may need to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.
The employee may encounter situations where students are physically aggressive and/or verbally abusive. This may require physical interaction (using strategies acquired through de-escalation and restraint training) between the employee and student. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person. May be directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and/or output of students.
Terms of Employment: 188 days contract
Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).

Salary Range -$54,322.00 - $71,312.00 / Per Year
