Job Description:

Education: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency 

Qualifications: Ability to work with a variety of student behaviors and educational needs, primarily in the general education classroom.  Ability to work as a team member demonstrates human relations skills, and demonstrates effective communication skills.

Job Goal: Assist the classroom teacher with instruction and classroom activities. Assists students with disabilities under the supervision of special education/ general education teachers and building administrators.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist in carrying out activities to achieve goals and objectives listed in the student's Individual Educational Plans.
Assist students in instructional activities, curriculum modification, and adaptations with the planning and supervision of the classroom teacher and/or special education teacher.
Assist with the tracking of student progress through data collection.
Work out of an Adult Transition Program (ATP).
Support students individually or in small groups to support functional living skills, such as money management, elapsed time, use of calendar, social skills, self-management skills, and written correspondence.
Work with computers and other adaptive AT equipment to aid in student learning.
Supervise students individually and in small groups to access community settings, such as stores, libraries, fitness/wellness centers, restaurants, etc.
Work in collaboration with the lead teacher and employers in Grand Forks to support students in work experience settings.
Be comfortable navigating the city of Grand Forks with adult-age students.
Complete the Safe Driver course and be comfortable driving the school van.
Participate in professional development, including program-specific training and behavioral de-escalation, to acquire specific skills needed to perform responsibilities.
Promote learning environments that are student-centered, safe, and supportive.
Maintain effective communication by phone or text with immediate supervisors.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the district supervisor.
 
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, and stand. Lift sixty (60) lbs. occasionally, with the ability to reach, stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and/or crawl. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely.  Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to the risk of injury and/or illness.

Terms of Employment: Nine (9) months, academic school year

Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated by the Supervising Teacher and Building Administrator.
