QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a valid teacher’s certificate that is registered through the Department of Public Instruction. A head coach may be hired without a valid teacher’s certificate in the absence of qualified teachers as applicants.
Experience in teaching and coaching is preferred.
Possess excellent communications and public relations skills.
JOB GOAL
Coordinate and administer the activity according to the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the School Board with the supervision of the Activities Director.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the Activities Director in hiring and assigning the duties of all assistant and junior high coaches.
Attend athletic staff meetings.
Complete a written evaluation of all assistant coaches including junior high coaches. A copy of the evaluations will be made available to the Activities Director within one month of the completion of the season.
Follow procedures of Devils Lake Public Schools regarding requisitions and payments.
Coordinate the scheduling of practices and games with the Activities Director.
Inform participants and parents of the training, conditioning, and injury rules and policies.
Inform the Activities Director of injuries occurring during the season.
Reports known training violations to the Activities Director.
Responsible for the overall inventory and storage of equipment for his/her activity.
Promotes good sportsmanship and is responsible for participants’ conduct.
Responsible for press releases and maintaining good public relations.
Responsible for general supervision at all home contests.
Supervise the practice site and locker room.
Supervise road trips including at the destination (ie: before, during, and after the contest(s), and until the team returns home when the last participant leaves for home or has been picked up by parents).
Recommends budget and equipment needs to the Activities Director.
Write the goals and objectives for his/her activity each season and oversee the total program development.
Organize practice, teach related skills, and develop contest/game strategies.
Attend required rules meetings and workshops.
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually in writing by the Activities Director within two weeks of the close of the activity or sport.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Will be compensated based on co-curricular salary schedule.
