Job Description:

Surrey Public School looking for a 7-12 Social Studies Teacher for the 2025-2026 School Year.

 

High School Social Studies Teacher

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in areas of social studies for student in junior high and/or high school; develops student skills and abilities in critical thinking and problem-solving as it applies to ND Social Studies Standards. 

 

Essential Functions

Teaches knowledge and skills in history, geography, government, economics, and other social studies disciplines in accordance with district curriculum. 

- Promotes critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and analysis of historical and contemporary issues. 

- Creates a classroom environment that is safe, engaging, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, fostering student learning. 

- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that translate into meaningful learning experiences, encouraging discussion, debate, and research. 

- Designs learning activities that connect social studies content to real-world applications, including simulations, project-based learning, and primary source analysis. 

- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. 

- Maintains familiarity with district and North Dakota State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests. 

- Engages in professional development opportunities, including attending seminars, workshops, and professional meetings to stay current with best practices in social studies education. 

- Organizes and maintains accurate records of student progress, grading, and attendance, following district policies and applicable laws. 

- Encourages parental involvement in student education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. 

- Establishes and maintains classroom behavior standards that align with school and district policies, creating a positive and respectful learning environment. 

- Collaborates with other educators and staff, participating in grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, and school committees. 

- Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional materials, textbooks, and supplies, ensuring that classroom resources are well-maintained and up to date.
