Position Summary:
Minot Public Schools is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Special Education Director to lead and oversee the district’s special education programs and services. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, implementing effective instructional practices, and advocating for the needs of students with disabilities. The Special Education Director will collaborate with school leaders, teachers, support staff, parents, and the community to promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and oversight of all special education programs, ensuring high-quality services for students with disabilities.
Ensure compliance with all federal and state special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans.
Supervise, support, and evaluate special education staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
Collaborate with building administrators to support special education programming within the general education setting.
Oversee the district’s special education budget, including grant funding, and ensure appropriate resource allocation.
Provide professional development and training for special education and general education staff.
Serve as the district’s liaison with parents, community agencies, and external service providers to ensure comprehensive support for students.
Facilitate the Child Find process to identify students with disabilities and coordinate appropriate evaluations and services.
Address concerns and resolve disputes related to special education services in a timely and effective manner.
Analyze data to monitor student progress, improve instruction, and make informed decisions regarding program development.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Valid state certification/licensure as a Special Education Director or eligibility to obtain required certification.
Five years of experience in special education, with leadership or administrative experience preferred.
In-depth knowledge of special education laws, policies, and best practices.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Experience managing budgets and grants related to special education services.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, parents, and community members.
