Job Description:

The Southwest Area CTE Academy is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Family and Consumer Science (FCS) Teacher to join our expanding department to five instructors in a new building. This position will support the growing interest in FCS courses and provide students with essential life skills and career preparation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hands-on, student-centered learning and be committed to fostering personal and professional growth among high school students. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in Family and Consumer Science courses.  We currently offer courses in Child Development, Textiles/Fashion, Foods, Independent Living, Health, and the Teaching Pathway. 
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and success. 
Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, experiential activities, and real-world applications. 
Collaborate with fellow FCS teachers and campus staff to enhance curriculum development and instructional strategies. 
Integrate career readiness skills and industry-related knowledge into classroom instruction. 
Maintain a safe and organized learning environment, particularly in hands-on labs such as foods and fashion. 
Foster strong relationships with students, parents, and the community to support student success. 
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current in FCS education and best teaching practices. 
Opportunity to support and engage students in FCCLA and participate in campus-wide initiatives as needed. 
 
Qualifications: 
Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or a related field. 
Valid state teaching certification in Family and Consumer Science or eligibility to obtain certification. 
Experience in teaching FCS courses at the secondary level preferred. 
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage diverse learners. 
Knowledge of career and technical education (CTE) principles and their application in FCS instruction. 
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. 
Passion for preparing students for both independent living and future careers.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 185-day contract starting Fall 2025

Other:

SALARY: Determined off the 2025-2027 Professional Negotiated Agreement. The current salary range is $48,500 - $68,625, depending on education and experience.
