Qualifications
General Responsibilities
1. Maintain an orderly, neat, attractive and functional office setting.
2. Be directly accountable to the School Administrators; Program Coordinator and Director of Special Education (or a designated representative) for the programming of the Special Education students.
3. Serve as an ED/SLD/ID teacher.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Provide resource/consultant and/or direct services in the form of designing educational programs for children.
2. Adhere to all due process requirements regarding state and federal regulation.
3. Administer formal and informal group and/or individual tests and then integrate with teachers’ observations, classroom observation data and student and/or parent interview data to determine student needs.
4. Interpret test results to parents and teachers.
5. Make referrals to other agencies when appropriate.
6. Guide team in the development and implementation of an education plan for each student. (Further diagnostic work in a particular area may at times be a necessary part of the plan). The child’s individualized education plan must:
a. Describe long and short-range educational goals.
b. Include statements of the present level of achievement & functioning.
c. Delineate the nature and extend of related services required.
d. State the extent of participation with non-disabled students.
e. List classroom adaptations to be used.
f. List the professionals and/or non-professional personnel involved in the special education and related services programs.
Evaluation procedures used to evaluate progress must also be included. The plan must be agreed upon by school district personnel, special educational personnel and parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
7. When appropriate, provide small group and individual instruction for students enrolled in the program with expectations that each student’s achievements are to be maintained by charting, informal CRT’s, anecdotal records, written documentation of parent/teacher observations, classroom observation of student performance or a combination of these techniques as they relate to specific objectives.
8. Arrange team conferences and make home visits, when necessary.
9. Review and update child’s educational plan (minimum of updating annually)
10. Keep accumulative electronic files up to date, along with paper files completed and filed in the school office. (A second working file in the classroom is allowable)
11. Participate in program development in the related services area (PT/OT/Speech).
12. Work with school resources to implement programs for children.
13. Serve as a resource person for parents, teachers and administration.
14. Select, gather and distribute appropriate instructional materials and team teach in the regular classroom when assigned.
15. Attend regular personnel and professional building level meetings in the district(s) where employed.
16. Attend in-service training sessions contingent upon local administration approval.
17. Collect evaluation data as required.
18. Work cooperatively with program coordinators and director.
19. Organize and distribute appropriate schedules to program personnel and building administrators.
20. Additional activities/duties exclusive to your specific situation.
21. Assist the Director of Special Education in public awareness projects.
