Job Description:

Light of Christ is inviting applications for a part-time middle school Spanish Language Instructor at St. Mary's Academy for the 2025-26 school year. This position is responsible for helping students grow academically, spiritually, and socially in a Christ-centered environment.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities  

  1. Support the philosophy of Catholic education and teach, advocate, encourage, counsel and witness in keeping with the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith and teachings. Strive to serve as a role model for students in their spiritual growth. 
  2. Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  3. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.  Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. 
  4. Establish clear objectives for all subjects, units, and projects and communicate these to students.
  5. Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of the preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  6. Assist administration by adhering to system-wide curriculum initiatives and in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.  Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom and on the campus.
  7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
  8. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  9. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide reports as required.
  10. Refer to counselors students suspected of learning or emotional difficulties.
  11. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by state statute, administrative directive or policy.
  12. Make provisions to be available for students and/or parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  13. Attend and participate in faculty meetings (including but not limited to in-service, faith community programs and conferences) during or outside of regular school hours, and other professional meetings and workshops and extra co-curricular activities that may be scheduled or assigned. Part-time teachers are encouraged to attend and if unable to attend must confer with appropriate personnel to receive pertinent information.  Anyone who will be late or unable to attend must have prior approval from the principal. 
  14. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  15. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress.
  16. Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings. 
  17. Assist in keeping order in the hallways and lunchroom between classes, with special emphasis during noon period and assemblies. 
  18. Keep strict confidentiality on private matters pertaining to students and staff. 
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in job related area.
  • North Dakota Teaching Certificate.
  • Prior job related experience preferred. 
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong human relations skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain ethical behavior in all interactions. 
  • Able to develop effective working relationships with others.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical operations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task and read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.

St. Mary's Academy; 180 days of service during the 2025-26 school year
