LOCATION: Turtle Mountain Community High School
EVALUATION: As required by NDSCC and Belcourt School District #7 policy
 
Job Summary:
The FACS or Culinary Arts Teacher at Turtle Mountain Community High School will provide engaging instruction aligned with North Dakota CTE and academic standards in areas such as nutrition, culinary arts, food safety, hospitality, child development, personal finance, and related life skills. This educator will be responsible for developing a culturally responsive curriculum that includes both theory and hands-on application, helping students explore career pathways in human services, education, hospitality, and the culinary arts. The position also supports student leadership opportunities through Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) such as FCCLA or ProStart.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold one of the following valid North Dakota credentials:
North Dakota Educator’s Professional License with endorsement in Family and Consumer Sciences, or
North Dakota CTE Certification in Culinary Arts

Additional Qualifications:
SERV Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain within the first year)
Experience teaching or working in food service, nutrition, child development, or hospitality fields preferred
Knowledge of ND CTE standards and ability to design lesson plans aligned to them
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations, including Native American youth
Capacity to maintain a clean, safe, and organized lab/classroom environment

Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction in Culinary Arts, Nutrition & Foods, Child Development, Human Growth, Consumer Education, or related FACS courses based on licensure and student needs

Incorporate hands-on learning opportunities in lab or kitchen settings, ensuring daily implementation of safety and sanitation protocols

Manage classroom inventory, equipment, and materials including kitchen or lab supplies

Differentiate instruction and assessments to meet the diverse learning needs of all students

Support student involvement in CTSOs such as FCCLA or ProStart and assist with local and state competitions

Collaborate with colleagues, families, and community stakeholders to support student growth

Monitor and document student performance and provide timely feedback

Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and curriculum planning

Integrate career readiness skills and encourage exploration of postsecondary and workforce opportunities

TMCS CTE Director, TMCHS Administration, TMCS District Administration
 
Position Sensitivity Level:
High – Direct instructional contact with students; requires adherence to FERPA, CTE guidelines, and district confidentiality standards.
