Job Description:
Under basic supervision, responsible for strategizing, creating, and executing communications that effectively engage stakeholders, including community, students and their families, media, and staff. The role ensures clear, consistent messaging and a strong brand presence while promoting the school district’s mission and initiatives.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develops and implements a comprehensive communications plan that aligns with the school district's strategic goals.
Serves as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and public relations.
Crafts press releases, media advisories, and other external communications materials, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Plans and executes marketing campaigns targeting prospective families, community stakeholders, and local media. Oversees the creation and distribution of marketing collateral, including brochures, newsletters, and digital content.
Ensures brand consistency across all communications and platforms.
Manages assigned social media profiles and maintains the school district’s website to maximize engagement. Monitors online reputation and responds to inquiries or concerns appropriately.
Coordinates community outreach initiatives and events.
Creates compelling content for various channels, including videos, blogs, social media posts, and newsletters. Collaborates with internal departments (e.g., curriculum, administration) to source stories and content ideas. Develops and manages a content calendar to ensure timely delivery of communications.
Builds and maintains relationships with key community partners and local media.
Prepares and implements crisis communication plans in collaboration with district leadership. Manages timely and transparent communication during emergencies or critical events.Trains staff on crisis communication protocols as needed.
Monitors and reports on the effectiveness of communication campaigns using relevant metrics and analytics.
Handles special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Professional Communication, or related field; AND 3 years communications or marketing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
MPS organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizational and time management.
Pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and laws.
Business and personal computers, design software applications, social media, and current and developing technology in communications.
Skill in:
Communicating effectively, including listening, oral, written, and other communication skills.
Examining and conveying complex topics to a variety of audiences.
Researching, collecting, analyzing, and preparing data, and generating reports.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and stakeholders.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid North Dakota State Driver’s License is required.
