Job Description:

Dickinson Public Schools is seeking a motivated and student-centered Middle School Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Instructor for the 2026-2027 school year. This position will be based at Dickinson Middle School and will provide instruction across a variety of Family and Consumer Sciences content areas, including foods and nutrition, textiles, and early childhood education.

The successful candidate will play an important role in introducing students to essential life skills while also helping build a strong and aligned FACS pathway for students as they transition from middle school into high school programming. This instructor will work collaboratively with the Southwest Area Career and Technical Education (SWCTE) and Dickinson High School FACS team of five instructors to share curriculum, resources, and instructional best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in middle school Family and Consumer Sciences courses
• Teach core content areas, including foods and nutrition, textiles and sewing, child development, and early childhood education
• Create a safe, inclusive, and well-organized classroom and lab environment
• Plan and implement hands on learning experiences that promote practical life skills, creativity, and problem solving
• Collaborate regularly with the SWCTE FACS team to align curriculum, assessments, and instructional strategies
• Support the development of a cohesive FACS pathway connecting middle school experiences to high school coursework and career exploration
• Integrate career awareness and real world applications into instruction
• Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students
• Maintain accurate student records, grades, and documentation in accordance with district expectations
• Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning opportunities
• Uphold district policies, safety procedures, and instructional standards

Collaboration and Program Alignment
This position is intentionally designed to work in close partnership with SWCTE and DHS. The instructor will benefit from shared curriculum resources, professional support, and collaboration with experienced FACS educators across the district. This teamwork is essential to ensuring continuity, consistency, and high quality instruction for students throughout their Family and Consumer Sciences experience.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Valid North Dakota teaching license with appropriate endorsement or eligibility to obtain licensure
• Strong interest in Family and Consumer Sciences education and middle school learners
• Ability to manage a classroom and lab environment effectively
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching Family and Consumer Sciences or related coursework
• Background or experience in foods, nutrition, textiles, child development, or early childhood education
• Middle school teaching experience
• Commitment to hands-on, student-centered instruction
