TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 - 11 months
LOCATION: Turtle Mountain Community Alternative School
POSITION SUMMARY
The Alternative School Administrator provides leadership for the Turtle Mountain Community High School Alternative School and is responsible for supporting a safe, structured, student-centered learning environment focused on engagement, graduation, credit attainment, behavioral support, and postsecondary readiness.
This position oversees the day-to-day administration of the alternative program and works in close coordination with the high school administration, teachers, counselors, support staff, families, and community partners to meet the academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional needs of students who benefit from an alternative setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide instructional and administrative leadership for the alternative school program in alignment with district goals, board expectations, school improvement efforts, and applicable policies and procedures.
Promote a positive school culture that emphasizes respect, accountability, attendance, student belonging, and consistent behavioral expectations.
Supervise the day-to-day operation of the alternative school, including student scheduling, staffing coordination, program implementation, student supervision, and building-level procedures.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure students receive appropriate academic support, intervention, credit recovery opportunities, and individualized pathways toward graduation.
Use student data to monitor attendance, behavior, credit accrual, academic progress, and graduation readiness, and respond with timely supports and interventions.
Work collaboratively with counselors, special education staff, MTSS teams, families, tribal agencies, juvenile services, social services, and other partners to address barriers to student success.
Support implementation of district initiatives related to standards-based instruction, school improvement, student engagement, and culturally responsive practices.
Conduct staff supervision responsibilities as assigned, including observations, feedback, documentation, and support for continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate student discipline, attendance, program, and compliance records as required by district, state, and federal expectations.
Assist with crisis response, student behavior management, restorative problem-solving, and school safety procedures.
Support family communication and community engagement efforts that strengthen trust and student success.
Perform other duties as assigned by TMCHS Administration or TMCS District Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in educational leadership, administration, counseling, or a closely related field preferred.
Valid North Dakota teaching license required.
Valid North Dakota secondary administrator credential required.
Years of administrative experience preferred.
Experience in secondary education, alternative education, student services, behavior support, or related educational leadership roles preferred.
Knowledge of secondary school operations, student discipline, MTSS, intervention systems, and graduation requirements.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Experience working with at-risk youth, culturally responsive practices, and trauma-informed approaches preferred.
Must pass a background check and meet all district employment requirements.
RANGE OF SALARY: Based on the current Belcourt School District #7 Administrative Salary Schedule and qualifications
