Job Description:

The Social Studies and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction in both social studies and physical education for students in grades 7–12. This position promotes academic achievement, civic responsibility, physical wellness, teamwork, and positive character development while creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Social Studies Instruction

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state and district standards for grades 7–12 social studies courses.
  • Teach topics such as world history, U.S. history, government, geography, economics, and civics.
  • Encourage critical thinking, discussion, research, and analysis of historical and current events.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technology to support diverse learning styles.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, projects, tests, and classroom participation.
  • Maintain accurate grades, records, and progress reports.

Physical Education Instruction

  • Plan and conduct physical education classes that promote fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Teach rules, techniques, and safety procedures for a variety of sports and physical activities.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs and abilities of all students.
  • Monitor student participation and physical progress.
  • Ensure safe use of equipment and facilities.

General Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture and effective classroom management.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with district policies and state educational requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support school goals and student success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Studies, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Valid state teaching license/certification with appropriate endorsements for Social Studies and Physical Education (grades 7–12).
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and instructional best practices.

Salary and Benefits

  • Base salary $45,000
  • Benefits include $9546 towards health insurance or in lieu of cash, 4% of teacher side of TFFR, paid leave, and professional development opportunities.
