Job Description:

Light of Christ Catholic Schools is inviting applications for a full-time Instructional Aide at Saint Anne Elementary School. This position is responsible for working with students, individually and in small groups, to reinforce skills implemented by the classroom teacher, assisting the teacher in creating a positive, safe learning environment, as well as providing lunch, hallway, and recess supervision to ensure safety of all students.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Support the philosophy of Catholic education and teach, advocate, encourage, counsel and witness in keeping with the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith and teachings.  Strive to serve as a role model for students in their spiritual growth. 
2. Assist teachers for the purpose of instructing students, individually and in small groups, by implementing lesson plans, instructional activities; administering tests; and planning.
3. Assist in lesson preparation, materials, and equipment. Assist teachers with classroom displays.
4. Monitor individual students in the classroom and outside the classroom for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, during arrival and departure from school building and on field trips.
5. Report immediately to the classroom teacher any problem or accident with a student occurring in the classroom or outside the classroom. Communicate any special information to the teacher about an individual student.
6. Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
7. May assist in maintaining the school library.
8. Refer all parent concerns and questions about any student’s progress to the teacher.
9. Assist in keeping order in the hallways, lunchroom and playground (if applicable), with special emphasis during noon period.
10. Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
11. Attend the in-service days specified by the principal.
12. Keep strict confidentiality on private matters pertaining to students and staff.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year related experience.
• Strong computer skills and human relations skills.
• Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain ethical behavior in all interactions.
• Able to develop effective working relationships with others.
• Able to perform basic mathematical operations.
• Able to explain concepts in a variety of ways to accommodate various learning styles.
• Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
• Able to multi-task and read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Able to deal with problems involving several variables.

Generally Monday through Friday when school is in session
