Terms of Employment: Summer 2026 Program Dates: May 28th - June 26th
Start and end dates are subject to change based on Turtle Mountain Community Schools' summer programming schedule and student needs.

Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 2:30 pm
Applicants must be available to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, special activities, and possible weekends.

Location: Turtle Mountain Community Schools
Primary work location may vary based on NYSP programming needs.

Responsible To: NYSP Coordinator, Athletic/Activities Director, and/or Building Administrator

Position Summary
Turtle Mountain Community Schools is seeking dependable, responsible, and student-centered individuals to serve as NYSP Summer Mentors. The NYSP Summer Mentor will support summer programming by supervising students, assisting with recreational and educational activities, promoting positive student behavior, and serving as a role model for youth participating in the program.

This position requires individuals who are reliable, respectful, active, and able to build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations. The successful applicant must demonstrate good character, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of Turtle Mountain Community Schools students.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must submit documentation demonstrating that they meet all required qualifications. Applicants who do not submit required documentation may not be considered.
High school diploma or GED required.
Must demonstrate the ability to work positively and respectfully with students, staff, families, and community members.
Must have strong supervisory skills and the ability to maintain student safety and discipline.
A background or interest in athletics, recreation, youth programming, education, mentoring, or community service is preferred.
Must be sensitive to the needs, interests, and cultural background of Turtle Mountain Community Schools students.
Must be dependable and able to report to work as scheduled.
Must be able to follow directions, work as part of a team, and communicate effectively with supervisors and program staff.
Must be able to work flexible hours as assigned, including possible weekends or special events.
Successful applicants must provide negative alcohol/drug test results and receive a favorable background check prior to beginning employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The NYSP Summer Mentor shall be responsible for the following duties:
Supervise students participating in NYSP summer programming.
Maintain student discipline and ensure appropriate student conduct at all times.
Assist instructors, coordinators, and program staff with recreational, athletic, cultural, academic, and enrichment activities.
Support classroom or instructional activities when requested by the NYSP Coordinator or assigned supervisor.
Promote student safety during all program activities, transitions, meals, transportation, and field experiences.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating respect, responsibility, patience, fairness, and professionalism.
Encourage student participation, teamwork, leadership, and positive peer relationships.
Assist with setup, cleanup, equipment distribution, and organization of program materials.
Monitor student attendance, participation, and behavior as directed.
Report student concerns, injuries, discipline issues, or safety matters immediately to the NYSP Coordinator or assigned supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and program matters.
Follow all Turtle Mountain Community Schools policies, procedures, safety expectations, and supervisor directives.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
The NYSP Summer Mentor position may require the ability to:
Stand, walk, and actively supervise students for extended periods of time.
Participate in or assist with recreational and physical activities.
Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Lift, carry, or move program equipment and supplies as needed.
Respond quickly and appropriately to student safety or supervision needs.
