License Requirements
Must hold/obtain a valid North Dakota teaching license. Depending on the position, must also obtain any additional required credentials.
Basic Function
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, capable, and responsible individuals.
Position Responsibilities
Instruction and Class Meetings
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Planning and Curriculum
Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of learner outcomes specified in the Minot Public Schools curriculum guides.
Establishes and communicates to students clear objectives for all lessons and projects.
Classroom Environment
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Always treats students with dignity and respect.
Preparation and Sub Plans
Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
Develops instructional plans for substitute teachers when absent.
Instructional Techniques and Technology
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and technologies designed to meet the learning needs of individuals or student groups.
Mission and Strategic Plan Alignment
Strives to implement, through instruction and action, the mission, values, beliefs, vision, and student exit outcomes as set forth in the Strategic Plan for Minot Public Schools.
Assessment and Reporting
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
Provides progress reports to parents as needed.
Special Learning Needs
Assesses the special learning needs of students on a regular basis.
Seeks the assistance of other professionals as necessary.
Safety and Care of Resources
Takes all suitable and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Records and Compliance
Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Student Conduct and Classroom Management
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
For the classroom, develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedure.
Maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Availability to Students and Parents
Makes provision for being reasonably available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
Supervision of Aides and Volunteers
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Evaluates their performance.
Professional Growth
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Meetings and Committees
Attends staff meetings.
Serves on committees as reasonably required.
Interpersonal Relationships
Develops and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Professional Integrity and Ethics
Demonstrates professional integrity.
Adheres to the Minot Public Schools Code of Ethics.
Handles confidential information appropriately.
Other Duties
Performs other professional job-related duties as assigned by the principal.
