Coaching
Reports To: Activities Director and Building Principal
Position Type: Seasonal/Extracurricular
Position Summary
The student-activities Coach is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and instruction to student-athletes participating in district-sponsored athletic programs. Coaches promote skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth while supporting the mission and educational goals of the school district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize, plan, and supervise practices, contests, and team activities.
- Teach individual and team skills, strategies, and fundamentals appropriate to the sport.
- Promote sportsmanship, character development, and positive citizenship.
- Establish and maintain high expectations for student-athlete conduct and participation.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and other activities.
- Ensure a safe environment and follow district safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, officials, and community members.
- Monitor academic eligibility and encourage academic success.
- Maintain equipment, uniforms, and facilities in accordance with district procedures.
- Adhere to district policies and state athletic association rules and regulations.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director or administration.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of coaching principles, athletic programs, and student development.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Must obtain and maintain all required coaching certifications, trainings, and clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience in a school, club, or youth athletic setting.
- Experience working with middle school and/or high school students.
- Current concussion management certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to actively supervise athletic activities.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment as needed.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions.
Terms of Employment
- Compensation based on the district's extracurricular salary schedule and assigned coaching position.
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and district hiring requirements.
- Continuing contract rights do not pertain to extracurricular work agreements.
